smileDespite the desire for a gorgeous smile, many people are hesitant to receive metal braces. Between the appearance and discomfort, often people would rather endure a smile filled with crooked or crowded teeth. Thankfully, at Aesthetic Orthodontics, we offer practically invisible alternatives to traditional braces. In today’s blog, your 90211 orthodontist, Dr. David Alpan, discusses the benefits of Invisalign and Incognito lingual braces.

Invisalign Braces

With Invisalign, you will receive a set of custom-made clear plastic aligners. You simply wear the aligners for between 20 and 22 hours each day. About every two weeks you will upgrade to a new set as your teeth are gradually and gently repositioned. You won’t need to alter your diet, brushing and flossing will be easier, and many patients report a reduction in the gum and cheek irritation often experienced with braces. For adults, the entire treatment period typically lasts a year. Teens may require up to 18 months. For teen patients, Invisalign also provides up to six replacement aligners in case any become lost or misplaced.

Incognito Hidden Braces

Also known as lingual braces, Incognito uses metal brackets and wires, but instead places them on the back, or tongue facing, side of your teeth. As a result, your braces are invisible. The lingual braces are less likely to break or have food become stuck in them. In many cases, the treatment time is shorter when compared to traditional braces. Incognito Hidden Braces also require fewer office visits and adjustments.
